One time my dad found a snake on the side of the road and lay it in the back of the minivan. When he got home he called me outside to see it and we drove around the neighborhood with the trunk door open showing it off to the neighbors. It was a five-foot-long constrictor. One neighbor said that it probably got loosed by its owner after growing too big. We drove back home and my dad cut the belly of the snake open lengthwise so I could see its insides. We left the snake splayed open in the back of the minivan for days. I don’t remember what happened after that.
Once I went to a summer camp where the counselor told me to write my sins down on a piece of paper and burn it. I wrote down that I played Neopets online. I burned the paper and asked for god’s forgiveness of my soul. Also at summer camp, a man said that duck-calls are very similar to the words of Jesus. I asked for a duck-caller for christmas that year.
One time I smoked weed in my parents’ car in the Walmart parking lot after the junior prom.
Once I went to the arboretum when I was very young and the whole field was covered in buttercups. I went back every year and the field was never covered in buttercups again.
One day in summer I stayed in the pool all day, even during adult swim, because it was gray and cold and no one else was there.
In kindergarten my mom bribed me into going to french class with a Checkers’ burger.
One time there was a potluck in the park across the street from my house and Alameda the nextdoor neighbor brought jello salad from the Giant and we ate on paper plates with those wicker plate holders underneath and Thea sat at the top of the highest tree until the sun went down.
